A wind turbine gearbox inspection helps find wear before it turns into a failure. Across the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia, EVenergy inspects the gearbox and main bearing with endoscopes, vibration analysis and thermal imaging, looking for wear, misalignment and lubrication deficiencies without a full teardown. The same inspection campaign can cover the tower from anchor bolts to flange bolts, the foundation, and the internal crane and service lift.

Wind turbine gearbox inspection: endoscopy without teardown

An endoscope reaches all internal stages of the gearbox, so the inspection does not need a teardown. We follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the gearbox, and combine endoscopy with oil and vibration analysis and thermal imaging for early detection of wear.

Anchor and tower flange bolt tension and torque checks

Anchor and tower flange bolts hold the structure together. We verify bolt tension and torque with calibrated hydraulic tensioners and torque wrenches, and keep traceable test records.

Internal crane and service lift inspection

  • Internal crane — structural checks, function tests and load tests.
  • Service lift — inspection against the manufacturer’s specifications, across lift brands.

NDT methods for towers, welds and foundations

Tower and foundation inspections use liquid penetrant (LPT) and magnetic particle (MPT) testing, with visual and welding inspection as the contract requires. The applicable method and test scope are set for each assignment, and the methods are listed in the table below.

Owners can combine these checks into one campaign, for example an end-of-warranty inspection, together with blade inspection and wind turbine maintenance and O&M support. All work runs under QHSE and site assurance. The Zarafshan Wind Farm completion certificate recommends EVenergy for similar inspection assignments.

How the work is delivered

  1. Define the work

Agree the equipment, site access, applicable procedures, acceptance criteria and reporting format before mobilization.

  2. Execute safely

Use site risk assessments, permits, isolation controls and task-specific competence for the work being performed.

  3. Close the loop

Record findings with photographs and recommendations, then track corrective actions through handover.

Typical outputs

  • Findings linked to the component, inspection method, severity and recommended action
  • Traceable test records

Frequently asked questions

What can a gearbox endoscopy detect?

An endoscope reaches the internal stages of the gearbox without a teardown, so wear, misalignment and lubrication deficiencies can be found early. We follow the manufacturer’s instructions and combine endoscopy with oil and vibration analysis and thermal imaging. Each finding is recorded with its location, severity and recommended action.

What NDT methods are used on wind turbine towers and foundations?

We use liquid penetrant testing (LPT) and magnetic particle testing (MPT) to find surface and near-surface cracks, with visual and welding inspection as the contract requires. Anchor and flange bolts are checked for tension and torque. The method and test scope are set for each assignment and applied by qualified personnel.

Do service lifts in wind turbines need periodic inspection?

Service lifts carry technicians up the tower, so their condition matters for safety. We inspect service lifts against the manufacturer’s specifications, across lift brands. Statutory tests are performed only by personnel with the qualifications and authorizations required for the particular scope and jurisdiction where the wind farm operates.

Who performs the NDT?

Qualified personnel and partners. Specialist methods and statutory tests are performed only by personnel with the qualifications and authorizations required for the particular scope and jurisdiction. Each finding is linked to the component, the inspection method, its severity and the recommended action, with traceable test records for the owner.
